LP21’S 38TH ANNUAL CELEBRATION of LAS FIESTAS DE CRUZ

The Feast of the Holy Cross is a special annual event. The popular celebration of chanted rosaries is based on a Catholic tradition in honor of the Cross that Puerto Ricans inherited from Spain. The celebration became further ingrained on the island by survivors of an earthquake that struck many years ago.

Because Las Fiestas de Cruz is a long-standing testament to key cultural expressions of Puerto Rico, and is still practiced by the Puerto Rican community in East Harlem, LP21 has consistently made it a point to celebrate. This event has primarily been used to strengthen family and community ties through communal rejoicing, and has been celebrated to ensure that these oral and community traditions thrive in the Puerto Rican Diaspora and for generations to come – ¡QUE VIVAN LAS FIESTAS DE CRUZ!

Las Fiestas de Cruz es un evento anual especial. La celebración popular de los rosarios cantados se basa en una tradición católica en honor a la cruz que los puertorriqueños heredados de España. La celebración se incrementó aún más en la isla por los sobrevivientes de un terremoto que golpeó hace muchos años.

Debido a que Las Fiestas de Cruz es un testimonio de larga dato de las expresiones culturales clave de Puerto Rico, y aún es practicada por la comunidad puertorriqueña en East Harlem, LP21 ha segido la tradicion para celebrar. Este evento se ha utilizado principalmente para fortalecer los vínculos familiares y comunitarios a través de la regocijo comunal, y se ha celebrado para garantizar que estas tradiciones orales y comunitarias prosperen en la diáspora puertorriqueña y por las generaciones para venir, ¡QUE VIVAN LAS FIESTAS DE CRUZ!
